Keeping it Local with Xquizit Tours

One of the rewarding surprises since the pandemic closed our borders, is the number of locals wanting to explore their own backyards.

Xquizit hosted a group of Rotorua locals recently. They took the opportunity to visit some of the geothermal areas for the very first time. Transported in luxury, with door to door pick ups, this group was in for a fun and fascinating day of discovery, accompanied by their own professional driver/guide.

Starting out at Wai-o-Tapu Thermal Wonderland we learned the history of the Lady Knox Geyser before seeing it erupt to a magnificent height. A tour of the park followed , with expressions of wonder at the extremes of colour created by the natural minerals along the way. And we can’t forget New Zealand’s largest mudpool! Guaranteed to plop and spurt mud creatures from the mysterious boiling depths below.

Then it was off to Waimangu Volcanic Valley for some welcome, homestyle, refreshments in the Store and Cafe, at the top of the valley. Off we went for our hike down the valley, pausing to take photographs of the steaming cliffs and lakes along the way. Waimangu reminds us of how New Zealand would have looked, prior to human habitation. The trail took us all the way down to Lake Rotomahana where Ariki awaited, ready to cruise across the placid waters. Steam and geysers played along the shoreline as we learned about the fate of the famed Pink and White Terraces following the 1886 eruption of Mount Tarawera. Getting back to the top of the valley was made easy with the shuttle bus.

Back into the luxury of Xquizit’s Mercedes mini-coach, there was time for a liquid refreshment stop on the way home. Time to relax, and relive some of the fun and captivating sights and moments from our special day, before being dropped back home.

There are so many local secret spots, and Xquizit Limousines and Tours can’t wait to help with your exploration plans. So gather your family, group of friends, or club members and leave all the organising to us, as we arrange fun and memorable, Xquizit day trips and mini-holidays, just for you.
